Camping weekend in Kiama

Another long weekend means it must be time to go camping again!
Another long weekend, so this must mean another camping trip.
It’s a long time since I’ve spent any time in Kiama – the last time we were here was the end of a day trip with a final stop for dinner.
The first thing that sets Kiama apart from the South Coast is the scenery – instead of narrow beaches hemmed in by bushland and mountains, Kiama is surround by rolling open fields. In fact, there’s a field with cows overlooking the beach!
The holiday park is massive but well run with lots of services available, well maintained and clear signs (it would be easy to get lost here). Luckily, we managed to get sites on the beach front but at the farther end of the park away from the pool and other kids’ activities.
Unfortunately, the town is just a little bit too far from town to walk there, but there are great clifftop walks – we really only just scratch the surface with a quick walk over the southern headland.
It was a rainy day when we went to look at the blowhole but that didn’t seem to matter to the tourists who had turned out. The blowhole is well developed with lots of different viewing platforms including access for disabled people.
We also had a morning out in Gerringong which has the same feel as Kiama although slightly further set back from the sea – again, the wide open views along the coastline and inland.
Although we are getting better at organising everything for camping, when it comes time to leave we’re getting jealous of the others who can pack up their camper trailers and just leave.
